We'd love to connect current Westmont students with alumni who can encourage them during their time on campus.
At this time, we are focusing our efforts at Westmont College, though we hope to expand in the future. This program is operated by AARJ and is in no way affiliated with Westmont College.
AARJ wants to facilitate opportunities for students of color to succeed, both during their undergraduate career and beyond. By connecting current students with alumni, AARJ hopes to construct networks of support for students in their careers and personal lives.
Mentorship also creates pathways of access to career opportunities for students, while also providing alumni with opportunities to offer guidance to current students.
If you are a student, click the “Student Interest Form” button above. The form will ask you a few questions, including your name, graduation year, contact information, racial/ethnic background, and what you’re looking for in a mentor.
If you are an alum, click the “Alumni Interest Form” button above. The form will ask you a few questions, including your name, graduation year, alma mater, contact information, racial/ethnic background, and other relevant information.
No! Students and alumni of all racial and ethnic backgrounds are welcome to join the network.
However, we generally will place students of color in mentorship with alumni of color, unless otherwise requested, and may hold events particularly focused around students and alumni of color.
This is up to you and your mentor. Mentorship may look different depending on the goals, locations, and backgrounds of the mentor and mentee.
AARJ also may host virtual and/or in-person events to facilitate student-alumni connections.
Yes! We welcome alumni from all institutions to join the mentorship network.
While this particular project currently focuses on providing Westmont students with access to mentors, we are happy to include mentors from other institutions within our network.
Not at this time. Since this mentorship network is a project currently focusing on Westmont College, we only accept students from Westmont at this time. AARJ may set up mentorship networks and programs at other PWIs in the future.
If you think your school or alma mater would benefit from a mentorship program, contact us at email@example.com.
As a student, you are free to participate for as long as you want.
As an alum, your name will remain in our database in perpetuity unless otherwise specified, although the duration of specific mentorships is up to you.
Not at this time.
For the safety of everyone involved, AARJ is respecting all COVID-19 protocols and will not be hosting meetups or events in person until it is safe to do so.
Of course! If you would like to request a specific person as your mentor, feel free to note this in your interest form.
However, we cannot guarantee that your requested mentor will be able to take on new mentees, and we leave that up to the mentors to decide.
Yes! We have a LinkedIn group for the AARJ Westmont Mentorship Network--find it here.
